Wimberley Hill Country Homes For Sale
Heavenly Wimberley has it all - art, music, beauty, and an easy-going lifestyle.
Wimberley has been described as a “little bit of heaven,” and if you spend any amount of time there you’ll quickly discover why. Situated on a stretch of the Blanco River on Highway 12 at the eastern start of the Texas hill country, Wimberley has an almost magical quality. Ask any local why they live there and many times they’ll say that they were just “drawn” to the town. Maybe it’s the tall, lush cypress trees that grow along the banks of the Blanco and Cypress Creek, the gently rolling hills, Jacob’s Well nature area, Blue Hole, the easy-going, laid back character of the people, or a combination of all of the above. Whatever the reason, most people who call Wimberley home chose the location not because a job brought them there but because they just wanted to be there. Consequently, Wimberley has a really positive vibe and openness that can make anyone feel welcome no matter how new to the community they may be. Add to that Wimberley’s large contingent of established artists and well-known musicians (sprinkled among the hills are even some of Texas’s Grammy winners) and you have a one-of-a-kind community with a character and feel unique to anyplace else. To top it off, Wimberley is in close proximity/reasonable commuting distance to Austin (40 minutes), San Marcos (12 miles), and San Antonio (50 miles), meaning that if you want you can work in the big cities and hang your hat in a little slice of heaven.
Things to do in Wimberley
Blue Hole Park on Cypress Creek, Jacob's Well, EmilyAnn Theatre, Corral Theatre, Wimberley Playhouse, Multiple Art Galleries
Wimberley is probably first and foremost an artist community with great outdoor amenities. There is always something to do, whether it’s swimming at Blue Hole and Jacob’s Well or taking in some art at one of the many galleries in town. Yearly festivals such as the Wine Walk, which features Texas wines from the nearby vineyards, keep the “downtown” Wimberley Square alive and vibrant. Go to just a few events and you’ll find yourself quickly making friends and getting into the Wimberley groove. If live performance is more your thing, Wimberley offers the EmilyAnn Theatre and the Wimberley Playhouse where you can catch a play. For a real treat, head over to the Corral Theatre for an open-air movie experience where you can see first-run flicks and bring your own snacks, including beer and wine, or you can buy snacks there for just $1.00 each. On any given day you can also catch live music performances at one of the restaurants around town or, usually, hear a free concert given by one of the myriad street performers who add some extra beauty to the downtown experience.
